A great PowerPoint on the words of the year that Collins Dictionary have recognised. Works well as a starter or has a class discussion.

I made this PowerPoint based on an old pronunciation guide I found written by the BBC. It’s a guide to elements of pronunciation in the English Language that are the subject of debate. It was used by the BBC to teach newsreaders how to speak! It is very informative and will raise some laughs in the classroom. My students loved it.

PowerPoint and resources on how to get grade 5-7 on the ‘HOW’ questions. This is based on The Silence of the Lambs. This is modern, informative and interactive lesson which the students really enjoy. Model answers included. The questions are, ‘How does the writer make these lines exciting and dramatic?’ and ‘How does the writer increase the tension in this part of the extract?’

WORD ASSOCIATION Game - FUN STARTER / ICEBREAKER

Fun starter for any lesson. Everyone sits in a circle. The first player, chosen randomly, says one word out loud. The next player, in clockwise order, has to quickly say a word that has some connection with the previous word. What counts a connection is down to the parliament of players to determine: if somebody doesn’t like a connection, they can challenge it, and everyone votes on whether or not to allow it. In the event of a tie, the word is allowed.

A lesson on writing a review for the GCSE English qualification. I have based my lesson on the 2019 movie, Queen and Slim. It’s a very relevant movie to talk about in 2020. I have included the following: 75 slide PowerPoint Microsoft Word page with the movie review Word page with highlighted stylistic features Word page with highlighted sentence starters Word page with highlighted short sentences Link to video clips from the movie Class dicussion Movie Catchphrase starter** Synopsis: Slim and Queen’s first date takes an unexpected turn when a policeman pulls them over for a minor traffic violation. When the situation escalates, Slim takes the officer’s gun and shoots him in self-defence. Now labelled cop killers in the media, Slim and Queen feel that they have no choice but to go on the run and evade the law. When a video of the incident goes viral, the unwitting outlaws soon become a symbol of trauma, terror, grief and pain for people all across the country.

A 79-slide PowerPoint on the GCSE English Language paper 1 exam. Excellent for exam practise. The resource is split into 5 parts for each specific question. Each question (e.g. bullet point, impressions, HOW etc) has 5-8 practise questions and model answers. Worked very well with my grade 4-7 students. I have also created revision packs for each question in the reading fiction exam. I have included the extracts and the answers for info retrieval, the ‘HOW’ questions, the ‘IMPRESSIONS’ question and the ‘EVALUATION’ question.
